Stilhed som strategisk ledelsesværktøj

Vi taler efter sigende med ca. 9000 ord i timen. Ovenpå en arbejdsdag med utallige møder skal hjernen altså fordøje og bearbejde helt vilde mængder af ord, som er kommet i en lind strøm uden pauser. Du kan sammenligne det med en bog, der er skrevet uden mellemrum. Du kan godt afkode ordene, men det vil kræve enormt meget af din kognitive båndbredde og opmærksomhed, som kunne have været brugt langt bedre (s. 19). Ifølge Bastian Overgaard er det præcis det samme, der sker, når vi sidder i timelange møder og taler uafbrudt. Vi sætter hjernen på uhensigtsmæssigt og konstant overarbejde og stresser unødigt os selv. Dette kan vi selvfølgelig undgå ved at bruge det simple værktøj, som stilheden i virkeligheden er. Vi skal bare være stille sammen. Vi skal bare holde kæft sammen ca. 10% af vores mødetid. Så enkelt er det!

Du sidder måske nu og tænker, at det da lyder ret enkelt, så er det virkelig nødvendigt at skrive en bog om det? Men hvor mange møder, har du selv deltaget i, hvor I har været stille sammen i 30, 40 eller 60 sekunder. Sådan helt stille? Møder, hvor der fx har været tid til refleksion efter hvert agendapunkt? Ikke særligt mange, er mit umiddelbare gæt. Så det lyder måske enkelt, men det kræver en adfærdsændring hos os, og det er som bekendt sværere end man lige umiddelbart går og tror. Det er denne adfærdsændring bogen hjælper os på vej med.

Det intelligente mellemrum

Budskabet i bogen er kort fortalt at overføre mellemrummet, som vi kender det fra skrift, til vores møder. Mange møder har så meget information at hjernen simpelthen lukker ned efter en periode. Den kan ikke klare mere støj. Vi mister fokus og kan ofte ikke tænke klart og rationelt, og ordene ender derfor med at vælte ud i rå usorterede mængder. Og det er det, der er humlen i det hele: Vi skal give os selv tid til at tænke før vi taler. Vi skal sortere kladdeordene fra. Vi skal reflektere undervejs. Dette gør vi bedst ved at være stille sammen – og skabe det intelligente mellemrum.

Støjfri Ledelse tager afsæt i sprog-, hjerne- og adfærdsforskning, og krydres undervejs med rigtigt mange konkrete eksempler fra den virkelige verden, hvor vi hører om ledere og virksomheder, der har formået at stoppe den endeløse talestrøm og efterfølgende har mærket de positive resultater.
